The Book of Kells,
Trinity College Dublin

Explore Ireland’s Greatest Medieval Masterpiece, Just 60 Minutes from Brielle House.

Library at Trinity College Dublin

A Masterpiece of
Medieval Illumination

Housed in Trinity College’s Old Library, the Book of Kells is an exquisite 9th-century manuscript famed for its stunningly detailed and vibrant illustrations. This illuminated Gospel book represents the pinnacle of early medieval artistry and craftsmanship in Ireland.

Each page is lavishly decorated with intricate Celtic designs, interlacing knotwork, and ornate symbols, offering a visual feast that has mesmerised visitors for centuries. The Book of Kells is one of only four remaining copies of this sacred text — and it remains in remarkable condition given its age.

Beyond the manuscript itself, the experience includes a visit to the Long Room of the Old Library — a breathtaking hall lined with ancient tomes and historic busts. The space is as much a part of the wonder as the Book itself, offering a powerful sense of connection to Ireland’s literary heritage.

Ann had left some essentials to start us off such as milk, coffee, cereals which we were grateful for as we didn’t need rush out after a long day travelling. We will definitely be staying again.

We came over from the UK and stayed here for a week in October whilst visiting family and friends in the Midlands. It was a perfect location, near all the places we needed to be and easy to get to from the ferry. Brielle House is a lovely, warm, cosy cottage, well equipped and comfortable.

We needed an overnight spot when attending the Taylor Swift concert in Dublin. The home is Lovely. Beautifully presented, spacious and very clean. Very kind host. Generous milk. Tea. Coffee. Cereals and biscuits left for our use. I have no hesitation recommending this home. It would make a great base if touring the Midlands, etc. Thanks, Anne, of Brielle House Guest Accommodation
