Kilkenny Medieval
City & Castle

Step into Ireland’s Medieval Heartland, Just 45 Minutes from Your Accommodation at Brielle House.

Kilkenny Castle

A Living Tapestry
of Irish History

Just under an hour from Brielle House, Kilkenny offers an unforgettable day out in one of Ireland’s best-preserved medieval cities. At its heart stands Kilkenny Castle, a striking 12th-century fortress turned grand estate, overlooking the River Nore and surrounded by landscaped gardens.

The castle was originally built by Strongbow and later rebuilt in stone by the powerful Butler family, who lived there for over 500 years. Today, its beautifully restored rooms offer a glimpse into the lives of Ireland’s aristocracy, complete with elegant furnishings, portraits, and a grand Long Gallery.

Beyond the castle, Kilkenny’s Medieval Mile is a treasure trove of historic streets, artisan shops, and architectural landmarks — including Rothe House, St. Canice’s Cathedral, and Ireland’s only accessible round tower. Whether you’re exploring ancient alleyways or enjoying a coffee in a vibrant square, Kilkenny blends heritage and hospitality in every corner.

This is a lovely self catering accommodation, really cosy, comfortable and very clean.
Ann had left some essentials to start us off such as milk, coffee, cereals which we were grateful for as we didn’t need rush out after a long day travelling. We will definitely be staying again.

We came over from the UK and stayed here for a week in October whilst visiting family and friends in the Midlands. It was a perfect location, near all the places we needed to be and easy to get to from the ferry. Brielle House is a lovely, warm, cosy cottage, well equipped and comfortable.

We needed an overnight spot when attending the Taylor Swift concert in Dublin. The home is Lovely. Beautifully presented, spacious and very clean. Very kind host. Generous milk. Tea. Coffee. Cereals and biscuits left for our use. I have no hesitation recommending this home. It would make a great base if touring the Midlands, etc. Thanks, Anne, of Brielle House Guest Accommodation
